Education - Comprehensive Study Center

Study Centers & Scholarship Exam Tutoring

Save the Children India runs more than 110 study centers all across Mumbai that improve the educational standards of slum children and to provide quality education to build the base of these children. The centers cater to Std V – VII students so the children are in the 11 – 14 age group.

The study centers are at Mumbai Municipal schools as well as at community centers. The teachers at the centers have a B. Ed degree and are provided with regular training so that they can update their skills and methods.

We have also opened a counseling cell that helps identify students with learning weaknesses and provides the required interventions to help them advance in their academics.

Read how our study centers helped Aarti:

Three years ago Aarti’s father passed away and her family was in a severe financial crisis. Due to the emotional strain at home, she was unable to concentrate on her studies and had no one to help or guide her at home, as her mother had started working to support the family. She was on the verge of dropping out of school.

Save The Children India had a study centre in the slums of Kherwadi where Aarti lived, and teachers conducted regular home visits to enroll children. They convinced Aarti to come to the study center. Initially when Aarti joined, she was extremely shy but once she started coming regularly for the classes, she improved considerably in math, her weakest subject. She began taking a keen interest in her studies, now that she had someone to support her.

The center also offered other activities like yoga, art & craft and sports and Aarti enjoyed these and began interacting more with the other children. Today, thanks to the help of the study center, Aarti is a hard working and happy student who has the potential to go far in life.
