Vedant is the second child of a lower middle class family staying in chawl near Santacruz. His father is an autorickshaw driver and is the only earning member of the family.

Vedant was diagnosed with profound sensory-neural hearing loss at age one.  His parents were shocked to learn that he would have to use hearing aids for his entire life.

They bought the hearing aids but they were at a complete loss about the treatment or therapy required.  They had lost hope that their child would ever be able to hear in his life.

Vedant started attending Dhvani in February 2010.  He has been wearing his hearing aids continuously since then.  He is attending audiological and therapy sessions regularly.  The doctor decided he was a good candidate for cochlear implant surgery to improve his speech perception, giving him a vastly improved quality of life.

Dhvani is proud to announce that on December 20, 2010, Vedant was our first child to undergo the surgery, with funds raised by Save The Children India with the support of Zeeman textiles. Now Vedant can hear like any other child!
